Do you ever pause to recall a time God showed up and rescued you from the horrible pit you were in? For some, it wasn’t a pit, but you were trudging through mud. You found yourself slow and stuck. The emotions that result from living the single mom life can do that. You are a single mom because you have been left either from divorce, the other parent not wanting to make a commitment to you and your child(ren), or you have suddenly been widowed. Maybe circumstances led you to make the decision to go it alone. Whatever the reason, you face emotions that are unique to single moms.
There is a scene in the movie, The Princess Bride, where Wesley is taken down to the Pit of Despair. It is there that he is tortured and left for dead. As a single mom, I could relate to this scene. The pit of my emotions was easily described as despair. My insecurities and doubts would torture me. I am so thankful that God addresses this directly in His Word and never plans to have me left for dead but to be alive and thriving.
He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. Psalms 40:2
It is easy to believe that you will never get out of the pit of your circumstances. It is also easy to get comfortable being stuck because you might think you deserve to be stuck. Sweet friend, don’t believe Satan’s lies and don’t fall for his deceitful tactics. You are meant to soar like an eagle. God has beautiful plans for your life.
You were meant to thrive and live with joy and peace. God does not desire for you to be stuck and just trudging along. He wants you to be alive in Him. He will set you firmly on unshakeable faith in Him. He will make you secure and guide your next steps. Trust Him as He picks you up and leads you.
