SINGLE(mom)HOPE Daily Devotional

Day Eight
Overwhelmed

The single mom life is overwhelming. I would find myself easily overwhelmed with the demanding schedule of my children’s schedules, my responsibilities, daily chores, work, and the stress of everyone’s emotions. Holidays overwhelmed me. All the “firsts” after the separation and divorce was overwhelming sadness. I seemed to have remained in a state of overwhelmed.

…When my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I
Psalms 61:2

This word “heart” is the innermost part of you. It is your heart, mind, soul, and your will. When all of you is overwhelmed you need rest. It’s exhausting. You are weak. I don’t know what circumstances are overwhelming you, but I know where you can find rest. Jesus is your rock. He is immovable. He is strength. He is your stable place. You can stand confidently on this Rock and rest.

You can build your house on this Rock. You and your children can live in the most stable place regardless of the circumstances. When you are overwhelmed and you will be, remember, there is the Rock that is higher than you. You have a safe place to rest and process all that is overwhelming you.
